Now seafood suppliers can do just that with the publication of <a title=\"ISO 22948 - Carbon footprint for seafood \u2014 Product category rules (CFP\u2013PCR)...\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/standard\/74228.html\">ISO\u00a022948<\/a>, <em>Carbon footprint for seafood\u202f<\/em>\u2013 <em>Product category rules (CFP\u2013PCR) for finfish<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The new standard details the product category rules (PCR) for the calculation and communication of the carbon footprint of seafood as defined in <a title=\"ISO 14067:2018 - Greenhouse gases \u2014 Carbon footprint of products \u2014 Requirements...\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/standard\/71206.html\">ISO\u00a014067:2018<\/a>,<em> Greenhouse gases \u2013 Carbon footprint of products \u2013 Requirements and guidelines for quantification<\/em>. This in turn enables a better understanding of the environmental impact of such products, which can be demonstrated to consumers as well.<\/p>\n<p>The methodology outlined in the document builds on the requirements of ISO standards for life-cycle assessment and products\u2019 carbon footprint. It enables\u00a0the calculation and communication of the carbon footprint of finfish products, from fishing and\/or cultivation through to consumption, and is relevant for products from both fisheries and aquaculture value chains.<\/p>\n<p>It is expected that widespread use of the standard will serve as a valuable tool to reduce energy consumption and improve the overall environmental impact of the seafood industry, while fuelling greater consumer demand for low-carbon products.<\/p>\n<p>ISO\u00a022948 was developed by ISO technical committee <a title=\"ISO\/TC 234 - Fisheries and aquaculture\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/committee\/541071.html\">ISO\/TC\u00a0234<\/a>, F<em>isheries and aquaculture<\/em>, whose secretariat is held by SN, ISO\u2019s member for Norway.
